Brakes & Levers

Klein used a variety of brakes on their bikes from most of the well-known manufacturers like Shimano, Suntour and Campagnolo, but you could also use aftermarket ones on their bikes like Pauls, Grafton, and Kooka, etc.,

One of my favourite brake levers on the Adroit was the Dia Compe SS5 levers, but as mentioned, there were plenty of other options that you could have used.

Paul Component Love Levers Mk1

The Paul Component Mk1 Love Levers were made in the U.S.A. from billet 6061-T6 aluminum. The handle section was nicely machined and had smooth edges and lines. They were not mass-produced lever sets and are still highly sought after today.

These levers look great on most retro bikes and make a great addition to any Klein.

Grafton Re-Entry Levers

Grafton Re-Entry brake levers were one-finger, ultralight levers made from durable 7075 T-6 aluminium. They were available in anodized black, grey, silver, violet, blue and red.

They were also used with Rapidfire plus shifter perches, which looked great on many bikes.

These are among the best aftermarket levers, and I couldn’t choose between these and Pauls. They are both C.N.C. machined works of art.

Grafton Re-Entry Levers & Speed Controllers

When it came to brakes, there were only two manufacturers that stood out for me: Paul Components and Grafton. Pauls had the drilled stoplights, and Grafton had the drilled speed controllers.

Both of these brakes were exquisite C.N.C. works of art. They looked great on many bikes and offered superior braking power for one-finger grip levers.

You would be hard pressed to choose between stoplights and speed controllers, but keeping them paired with the same levers is a good choice.
